The Road Back Home
At Fuster & Associates, we have signed a collaboration agreement with UNHCR to support the resettlement programme for refugees from Syria. This partnership, developed within the framework of our “The NeighbourGood” initiative, reinforces our commitment to ethical values, inclusion, and the universal right to adequate housing.
In this context, we contribute to the programme through financial and operational support aimed at facilitating safe and stable housing solutions for families affected by the conflict.
Syria: Rebuilding Lives
The crisis in the Syrian Arab Republic has now entered its fourteenth year, becoming one of the largest displacement crises in the world.
At present, millions of people remain internally displaced or living as refugees in neighbouring countries such as Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Türkiye.
However, today the sense of hope is beginning to change.
The Desire to Return Home
- 80% of refugees hope to return home one day.
- 27% intend to do so within the next 12 months (a dramatic increase compared to 1.7% the previous year).
- 568,150 people have already returned over the past year.
“As long as we are now in our country, we are happy. A home that we built in the past, we will build again. The important thing is to see my country return to the way it was, where my daughter can walk down the street safely. Houses—we can build them. Cars—we can buy them. The most important thing is for my country to return to the way it was. We are all Syrians.”
Challenges and Needs in Resettlement
Returning to Syria is not without obstacles. Many families find their homes damaged, lack basic documentation, and face weakened infrastructure.
The priorities for assistance are clear
- Protection and legal support at border crossings
- Access to safe drinking water and sanitation
- Secure shelter and housing rehabilitation
- Medical care and psychological support

In collaboration with UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency), we work to ensure that return is dignified and sustainable. UNHCR deploys teams at border crossings and in areas of return to provide immediate life-saving assistance as well as medium-term support.
We transform support into real solutions for those returning after years in exile
- Emergency kits: Delivery of essential items to 121 newly arrived families.
- Safe homes: Rehabilitation and repair of 27 shelters to ensure dignified housing.
- Field presence: Support at community centres and border points to prevent family separation.
